A true art Espresso is much more than a smooth, sweet cup of coffee brimming with panache; it is a coffee brewing method perfected by the Italians. The word espresso is Italian for ‘fast’. Hot water is forced under high pressure through finely ground and firmly stamped coffee. Espresso beans are dark roasted. The proper grind and length of contact are key to an impeccable shot of espresso. An espresso machine can brew a fresh, flavourful and aromatic cup of coffee with a fine, firm foam layer (also known as a tiger skin) within about 25 seconds.
